Epic @ The Rebar

  • Re-Bar 1114 Howell St, Seattle, Washington 98101 (map)

Think about the last time you went out and heard something (or someone) new. When you were entranced, surprised, intrigued, delighted by what was coming out of the speakers. When you ditched the crowd at the bar and found a new one on the dancefloor. When you forgot what time it was, what year it was, when you stayed out later than you thought you would because you couldn’t bear to miss the next record, or the next few.

The best DJs live and breathe music all day long, but you only get to hear them for an hour at a time. It’s time to change that. At Epic, it’s all headline. Every month, talented locals and visiting guests will take over the whole Re-Bar, for the whole night, so you can hear what they’re all about. Not just what they can find the time to play in a one-hour slot, but what they’d play for you and your friends in their living room. Not just the hits, but the inspiration behind them.

Open to close sets are a true test of any DJ and a challenge that most live for. They are chance for the DJ to immerse the dance floor in the groove, shift the focus across the full experience and tell a complete story.

When it comes to eclecticism, few other electronic musicians can replicate the sheer ingenuity that American producer David Pezzner invokes within his mosaic compositions. Hailing from Seattle’s enlightened indie-music scene, the multifarious studio mogul has steadily supplied a series of notable releases since the early 90s.

His 2013, LP for Systematic Records ”Last Night In Utopia” is a 15 track walk through of his electro/organic sounding style, in full dance-floor mode traversing with ease between disco, house and techno. Beatportal wax lyrical how it “blows like a cool breeze through the stale air of a market crowded with by-the-numbers deep house” and Resident Advisor note the “rising, sizzling dub effects” adding “a steeliness to his refined contours”. 5 Magazine coins Pezzner’s work as ”Future classics made for dance floors in the here and now”, while Ibiza Voice describes his music as ”Lush and tense with a transcendental twist”.

In the Summer of 2015 Pezzner launched his "Hunt & Gather" imprint with a solid focus on forward-thinking dance music receiving massive support from DJ Hell, Terry Farley, Laurent Garnier, &ME, Peter Kruder, Lee Burridge, Ame, Mano Le Tough and many others.

Club shows abound not only in Seattle, Pezzner’s live shows and DJ sets regularly move the dance floors of some of the most renowned venues including Space Ibiza, Rex Club Paris, Womb Tokyo, Fabric London, Cielo New York, and Chicago’s famed Smartbar.
